Brian Bourland wins at Asylum Xtreme Raceway with Hyper 9 2.0

Reported by Brian Bourland, posted by DJ - Round 1 of the Local Joe Point Series kicked off this past weekend at Asylum Xtreme Raceway located in Louisville, Ky.  This series alternates between REO Raceway in Evansville, In & AXR in Louisville.  The 1st round saw a total of 73 entrants ready to battle it out on the orange clay in the 95+ degree heat.  The 1st round saw my Hyper 9 2.0 take TQ and that time would hold until the 3rd round.  A little water to the track surface saw my TQ slip away in the 3rd round.  After qualifying was finished I was relegated to the 4th starting spot.  Unfazed by the turn of events I knew my Hyper 9 2.0 would prevail in the end.  After a fair start and claiming 2nd position, I then focused on chasing down the leader.  In the end some strategic pit strategy and a dialed H9 2.0 went on to claim victory in rnd1 of the point series.

Alabama Cups, Kortz gets 2nd - 6/04/10

Reported by Robin Nelson: 6/4/10 - This past weekend I drove down to Cullman, Alabama for the Manufacturer Shootout race.  Cullman is located right down the road from the famous Talladega Super Speedway, the largest track on the NASCAR schedule.  The race turned out being a huge success with close to 500 entries. All the top ranking pro drivers showed up at this race battling for the chance to take home the Manufacturer Shootout trophy.  The race track was great with a hard packed clay surface and flowing layout.  The track was  held at a large indoor arena where afternoon showers could not interrupt racing.  For those that don't know, this time of the year in Alabama is HOT!  Temperatures where in the low 80's to high 90's with super high humidity.  Practice was Thursday, with qualifying Friday and Mains Saturday, this type of schedule allowed racers who drove, the ability to drive home on Sunday without taking a day off work.  Jimmy Babcock ran the races keeping tight on a schedule so all racers would get as much time on the track as possible.  I didn't race myself, but chose to crew chief Jeremy Kortz, he takes a lot of attention, especially running 2 classes.  Qualifying went well with Jeremy qualifying 2nd in Hyper 9e 1/8 Buggy and 5th in Hyper 9Pro 2.0 1/8 Gas Buggy.

The track was grooving up and the speeds showed in the mains.  First up 1/8 Electric Buggy, Jesse Robbers (aka "Napoleon Dynamite") from HB(TQ) and OFNA/Hobao driver Jeremy Kortz had a great battle for the full 10 min. main with Jesse coming out on top and Kortz finishing second.

Next was the 1/8 Gas Buggy 40 min. A-main.  Kortz started 5th and got tangled in the first corner, starting at the back of the pack, Kortz battled his way back up to 3rd by the middle of the race.  But, towards the end of the race Kortz's tires started to wear and he had to settle with a 5th place finish.

Great finishes for a guy who hasn't run many indoor races.  Kortz and I would like to thank Allen Burton and his crew for a great race! Hope to see you there next year, Yall.

James G.(Hyperboy) wins at WCRC - 5/25/10

Reported by DJ - James Grossaint wins with his Jammin SCRT-10 on Friday night at WCRC.  After a firm grip on TQ, he only needed to get into the first corner cleanly to win the race.  As for the rest of the pack which scrambled back and forth for positions, James cruised towards the win and posting the double tap for the night.  Good job James now to get that nitro finger all worked in with the Mutilator Pro and see what you can really do.

Eric Kirts wins with Hyper 9 2.0 at the KBRL Nationals - 5/27/10

Reported by Eric Kirts, posted by DJ - Sunday was the KBRL Nationals in Florence Az. send off race at Sun Lakes rc club.  The race format was set-up and ran like the nationals with 7 minute quals and 45 minute A mains.  The racers were ranked by Kenny Brosh and grouped into three classes, Intermediate, Expert and Pro.  I was ranked 16th. putting me in expert, I did well in the quals and actually made the pro A in 9th place.  I had the option the run The Pro A or the Expert A, I decided to run the Expert A starting first on the grid.  I had a couple of fast sponsored losi drivers giving me a good battle for much of the main, but stayed focused and took the win by 2 laps at the end.  My Hyper 9 2.0 was smooth and the JL .21 Pro Engine never missed a beat!  Thank you and OFNA for the support.

Hyper 9 2.0 wins at Tri-Cities Raceway - 5/22/10

Reported by Joe Cathey, posted by DJ - Another weekend and a nother TQ and win for the Hyper 9 2.0.  This weekend was at my home track, Tri-Cities RC Raceway in Pasco, Washington for the forth race of the summer series.  The Hyper 9 2.0 was at home on the smooth clay surface and easily took the TQ and win for the 15 minute A Main.  Running a Hyper 9 2.0 with the Type B rear tower and arms, the car was consistent and easy to drive fast laps.

Hyper 9 2.0 wins at JCP Raceway - 5/22/10
Reported by Brian Borland, posted by DJ - With the start of the outdoor nitro season underway here in Indiana, and the weather cooperating for only the second time this spring, racing was underway at JCP's Midwest Monster located in Edinburgh, Indiana.  Qualifying was tight, after the 3rd round, the mains were finalized and the order set.  My Hyper 9 2.0 was sandwiched in 2nd place between 2 local Mugen hot shoes.  At the drop of the flag it was a clean start, as we approached the first jump section, a bobble by the leader allowed the Hyper 9 2.0 to make a pass into the lead and I never looked back.  The Mugens kept pressure on my Hyper 9 2.0 for a while but eventually I was able to pad my lead and coast it home after 20mins.

Tim & Tim Take the Hyper10sc for a 45minute ride at WCRC - 5/21/10
Reported by Tim Bump: Tim Bump and Tim "JT" Dunn won the West Coast Short Course 45 minute electric endurance race with the Hyper 10SC 4x4 powered by the Novak Havoc Pro ESC and Novak HV 4.5 motor. The 45 minute endurance race was a race with teams of two people on each team. Ten teams of two had to change batteries and switch from driving ...to turn marshal position while on the clock, so there was some running involved along with fast consistent driving and reliable race equipment. Tim Bump was the first to drive and had the lead before the first battery change. Tim Dunn drove the second stint holding the lead and Team NitroHouse never looked back taking the race win after 45 minutes of fast driving, fast battery swaps, and fast driver changes.

Jammin SCRT10sc win at Norcal Hobbies - 5/15/10

Reported by Jerry Ugalino/posted by DJ - OFNA Jammin SCRT-10 podiums top three at Norcal Hobbies.  The Norcal Hobbies Short Course Nation once again delivered another exciting race.  Week after week, the Ofna Jammin SCRT10 and OFNA Hyper 10SC continue to dominate the 4x4sc class on the new 10th scale off-road track built by Co-owner Kevin Jelich.  The race belonged to John Hubbard (check out his website www.rcshortcourse.com) and his newly acquired SCRT-10.  John led for the most part of the race until a few crucial mistakes opened the door for Sean Sargiotto.  Sean held down the lead but fell back into second when Hubbard came back storming with his fast lap of 23.26!  John thought the race belonged to him until Jerry Ugalino aka Watermelon Car and a Norcal regular started making his move after passing Sean to take second.  Jerry had his fair share of opportunities to take over the lead in the final minute of the race but could not capitalize on Hubbards mistakes.  If you get a chance, stop by during the week at the windy Norcal Hobbies in Union City, CA.  You'll find a Jammin or Hyper on the track just blowing by the competition

Hyper 9 2.0 TQ's and wins at Selah RC Raceway - 5/15/10

Reported by Joe Cathey & Posted by DJ - Well I had a fun weekend.   I traveled an 1.5 hours to Selah RC Raceway, which is O'Donnell country, to take on three O'Donnell team drivers at their home track.  I TQ'ed and won easily.  They could not match the pace of the Hyper 9 2.0.  There was another guy with a brand new Hyper 9 2.0 there, so I gave him some pointers on things I've tried to get him started.  I know it was just a club race, but it's always fun to go to someone else's home track and spank 'em.

OCRC, Scott McDonough wins Pro4 - 5/7/10

Reported by DJ - Local racer Scott McDonough wins at OCRC in Pro4 on Friday night taking the win over the other fast local Lee Gravelle. Scott wheeling his Jammin SCRT-10 around the track put down good laps for the win as so would Lee with some solid chasing but Scott would hold on a collect the racebuck metal gear medallion that OCRC gives to the winner of the class for the next club race, good job Scott but don't use the gear as an extra spur for your Hyper 9.

Oval is still King at Outback Raceway - 5/9/10
Reported by Robin Nelson - This past weekend I traveled up to the mountains of Tennessee to Outback Raceway for the OFNA Spring Nationals to race some Dirt Oval.  Outback has one of the best prepared and most consistent clay ovals I have ever raced on in the Southeast.  The owners, the Valentine’s, do a great job with the track and also run a well stocked hobby shop, just right down the road from the track, called Hillbilly’s RC.  The race was set up so drivers could come run a club race on Friday night with their big race being held on Saturday night, which I liked being this was my first dirt oval race this year!  The classes where 1/8 Limited Late Model, 1/8 Sprint Car and 1/8 Super Late Model.  About 35 racers showed up Friday night and about 45 or 50 racers showed up to battle Saturday night.  The weather was bizarre with temps in the 90’s during the day and around 70’s on Friday night and Saturday the temperature was 70 during the day and Saturday night the temps where in the 40’s.  I thought winter was gone?  The bitter cold Saturday night sent racers searching for setups and kept the track crew busy preparing the track, but all turned out good.  OFNA sent some great prizes to be given away and the racers enjoyed them including Brian Metcalf who walked away with a new OFNA Sprint Car.  The Sprint cars are becoming popular at the track and they are a blast to drive!  Here are the results from the OFNA Spring Nationals:

OFNA dominates Pro4 at the Las Vegas Silverstate Short Course Championships - 5/9/10

Reported by Dave Starks - This past weekend, the OFNA Team when to Las Vegas to race at the Las Vegas Silver State Short Course Championships.  Guess what.. DJ with his Hyper 10sc takes the win and TQ with Track Star Service man Jimmy Wright grabbing 2nd, it was a race that would put DJ back in the pack from a mistake and drive back through the field to make the time up on Jimmy for the race lead.  With a 10min. main DJ waited for the right time to get the lead as they raced through the field but Jimmy just caught a pipe late in the race for DJ to jump into 1st and hold the lead from there on out.  The track at 702 Raceway was fantastic and the AKA Wishbone tire was well suited for the conditions the track provided with 15 heats of racing and 10min. mains the track held up well, West Coast announcer Notch Johnson did a great job on the race program and race coverage and kept talking about In-n-Out with double doubles, but DJ was into 4x4's as the Hyper with Novak power cleared the bigger sections of track.  Until next year title and TQ belongs to the OFNA guy that answers your calls and questions.

Wed. nite racing at OCRC for Hyper 9e's - 5/5/10

Reported by DJ - OCRC Raceway offers a sizable track for some fast 1/8th scale racing and that's what the Hyper 9e likes, so on Wed nite the brigade of Hyper 9e's put on a clinic of podiums in both amateur & expert classes as Hyper's are the car to run at OCRC.  Robert Black & Jason Kung put a battle from start to finish as lead changes swapped from time to time as the track would take their mistakes and keep them close for the race.  Robert on 3-cell and Jason on 4-cell didn't make much of a difference for straight-a-way speed but the handle on the two cars killed the pace of the others but in the end track owner Robert Black got the win and the Sombrero (Cinco De Mayo) and Jason kept the 2nd place finish & Mike McMahon finished 3rd, good job by both.

In the amateur class Scott McDonough took the TQ honors for the class but the race would turn out be again another battle between two Hypers.  Lee Gravelle also wheel-in an Hyper 9e would dice with Scott for the top spot and Lee would notch up a win on his belt as he pulled away from Scott, Jeff Smith would take 3rd. Lee keep it dialed, the J-Concepts Wave Race is just around the corner. Stay tuned for more exciting OFNA news.

Wed. Nite racing at OCRC Pro4 - 5/5/10

Reported by DJ - Last nite in Pro 4wd would be the battle of dodge-cars as 12 cars would run at the same time in the quals. & the main.  As the TQ would be held by Randy Kung others would try for the top spot but to no avail, Randy would start from P-1.  So the party starts literaly party music like Ghostbusters,Danger Zone,Hey baby Que Paso,Can't Touch This & the all time favorite Ice Ice Baby would reverberate around the track entertaining the drivers & spectators.  Go!!!! Randy get the BIG bumper from STRC man Steve Wang into the first corner that would put Randy in mid pack racing to clear the meyham of ping pongs racing door to door others would take the lead while Randy gave chase to the leaders.  Chopping into lead P-1 gives up the spot on a mistake as Randy charges  to lead & never gives it up after that & continued to strut along for the win & the victory song "We are the Champions" new track proved to be exciting & looked fun, the J-Concepts Wave Race will be a good one to be at since this maybe the layout for this big race, stay tuned.
