X3 Sabre-E wins Byron's Fuel Champ's - 10/22/12 by DJ
Reported by DJ Sandate - Myself and some of the team went to Revelation Raceway to run the Byron's contingency race for big dollars, but that wasn't the case for as I run Sidewinder Fuels so I was into taking some hardware home and denying some checks but no as I turn my X3 nitro into a broken mess. But that didn't happen to my Sabre electric buggy as I managed a TQ and the win for the class, my Sabre was high on power and the track was loose so I had to rely on keeping the right amount of power down from loosing traction, from 1st to 2nd round was a tire change and was better in the 2nd round as it was smooth around the corners to the jumps and able to keep the TQ, the race was a little difficult as I had put on a harder set of tires on the front(an opps mistake) than my rears and now I had too much rear traction and was fighting to catch the leader as I had came up short on a jump and lost the lead at the start. But after 7 minutes of racing my Mamba Monster power with Savox servos X3 finished the race with the win. Revelation hosted a nice race for Byrons as the weather was on the cool side for most of the day and great racing for big paychecks.

Sean takes another win at OCRC with his X3e - 10/10/12 by DJ
Reported by Sean Miles - Wednesday night racing was a crazy race day for me on the new layout at OCRC. With a broken part and with a cracked lipo pack(some one stepped on my car) I kept my spirits up. So My practice was cut a little short due to a broken brace mount. My Team Manager "DJ" was able to bring me a aluminum brace. I had to tape my Lipo Pack up with some super strong duct tape. On my first qualifier I ran 14 laps @ 5:12:908 and my fastest lap was a 20.912 and I was the top qualifier. DJ saw somethings that would help the car get more steering. So changes where made and I'm glad the changes where made cause on the second Qualifier. I ran 14 laps @ 5:11.412 with even a faster lap time @ 20.898. My top 5 laps where 21.281 secs. and My top 10 laps where 21.659 secs. The A-Main I ran 19 laps in 7:09:377 and my fastest lap was a 20:967 and my top 5 laps 21.189 and my top 10 laps where 21.449. I had a very consistent race in the A-Main. The X3 Sabre was planet on the track and had a nice flow in and out of the jumps and the turns. The X3 Sabre had a lot traction. The buggy was hugging the turns with out a problem. The Buggy jumped and landed very smooth. Richard Saxon from AE congratulated me on a nice run and a couple of other heavy weight factory team drives did the same. It made me fill very proud to be a X3 Sabre owner and a OFNA team driver. I still have a lot practicing to do, but overall the Sabre is the GREAT 1/8 BUGGY. So for those who are looking for a great buggy. X3 SABRE is your buggy! Reported by DJ - Today was the second time that I took out my New "OFNA X3 Sabre-E" 1/8 buggy. I was a good day. On Sundays at OCRC they run 3 qualifiers and a Main. I'm proud to say for not racing for 3 months I'm on my way. I finished first in all three qualifiers. Today I was able to try a setup that was made last Wednesday but was not ran until today. Race one I finished first with 13 laps in 5:04:169. My fastest lap was 21.639, my top five laps averaged 21.841, and my top ten laps average 22.455 seconds. After my first qualifier, DJ my Team Manager from "OFNA" saw somethings that could help the car run smoother. So we move the positions of the shocks on the rear arms as well as change the shock springs. The second race I was able to adjust the ride height of the buggy right where I need it. So I ran a extra lap. I did 14 laps in 5:23:403 , My fastest lap was 21.672, and the top five average laps where 22.081. I was more consistent with the new set up. The car landed better and was more planted to the track. In the A-Main I had a very good start. I got caught up in some lap traffic and there brothers racing and of course one was faster than the other and I was getting beat up pretty bad while trying to lap the slower brother, but once I got clear I playing catch-up and kept racing. The faster brother put about 7 seconds on me with time winding down but my laps times were better and I was closing but I thought with only two laps to go I would be holding on to second but the leader made that slight mistake for me to get him on the last lap for the win.

Dan Hopkins Sidewinder Race podium finish for X3 Sabre - 9/11/12 by DJ
Reported by Dan Hopkins - The Sidewinder Nitro Explosion Race is a 2 day event. The 2 best qualifying points were used to based the main event starting position. I didn't make it to the practice day held the day before so I was going in to a fresh layout pretty much blind.
My qualifier goal was to drive smooth & steady for the first 2 rounds & hopefully secure a spot in the A-Main which could leave Round 3 for testing some setup changes. It didn't go exactly how I planned.....
Round 1 - Started nicely, I was on a steady pace, car was nice & stable, I wasn't pushing too hard & I ended up finishing 3rd (4th overall round 1)
Round 2 - Was off to a great start & was even flirting with the TQ pace. Car felt really good & I was cruising in 1st place. Then with about 1:30 left in the qualifier my radio started glitching. The car would turn but the throttle was off/on.. I felt a runaway coming on but tried to muscle the car around the track hoping for a top 3 finish. It didn't happen & ended up last. Now back at the pits, I had to figure out what the heck was going on. Was it a servo? Was it a switch? Was my servo horn stripped? NOPE! Stupid switch lead to battery lead was loose! I put some electrical tape on it & all was good.
Round 3 - I needed a good finish since I was deep in the B-main as far as the points go. I got off to another good start & was battling the top 3 positions. Once again the car felt great. I ended up taking 2nd place.
So my points were now good enough to secure starting position 3 in the A-Main for the Sportsman class.
A-Main - This was a 30minute event. I had never run a 30min. race before and wasn't sure how I was going to handle being up on the drivers stand that long. By now the track was completely blown out. I mean there were craters the size of small swimming pools and they were
everywhere. My strategy was this. If I stay smooth, stay calm, don't try to race EVERYONE, don't break, and get past the 1st turn pile up I would be in good shape at about the 25minute point. So the race started. I came out of the 1st turn and stayed on my wheels....YES.. Then I just stayed the course. The leader was really fast today and I knew it would be tough to beat him so I really didn't even try. Now I am battling for the 3rd position for most of the race with my friend Skye Baker when he has a mishap that gives me some breathing room. With the car feeling great even through the massive bumps I again stayed the course. Now passing the loop the announcer called me in second! There was still a lot of time left. I put the car in cruise control and it was pretty much smooth sailing from there securing the 2nd place podium spot and a HUGE trophy! Needless to say my kids were ecstatic when I got home that night and showed them the trophy.
All in all. The car held up great. I couldn't have asked for anything more. I went in with pretty much the same setup I started with. Between qualifiers and the main event the only thing I did was clean up the car, change the clutch bearings, and changed the rear sway bar (thinner).
As far as durability for the 2 day event. I broke (1) C-hub after some pretty hard landings on my 3rd qualifier. To be honest I didn't even know I broke it! I finished 2nd in that race! I noticed it when I was cleaning the car for the mains. The X3 has been pretty durable and coming from driving an Xray which is built like a tank that says alot. The big difference is the drive pins and out drives just don't wear! I have yet to break a rear bulkhead. (jinx) This car seems to have the bend but don't break down mentality. I have yet to DNF due to an actual broken part with the X3.
JL .21 Pro engine Proples Team C driver to a win at JBRL - 9/9/12 by DJ
Reported by Dj Sandate - Last weekend the JBRL took a long journey down south about 4miles away from the Mexican border to the Chula Vista track CVRC. It was there that Chad Grana driving a Team C buggy took his class win in Sportsman in the long A-main event from coming last on the first lap and digging in hard and picking off drivers one by one to get that win using the OFNA JL.21 Pro engine. Chad showed he had the power in the qualifiers but some beating and banging went on in those quals that keep him from that TQ run, so he still makes good time to start in the first half of the A-main. But the start was not so smooth as the train wreck of buggies flew off the big triple and caused gaggle of cars to be wadded up and in that would also be Chad and that first lap was the beat-down lap as Chad would cross the line dead last. But the JL engine had some work to do to put on the pace and playing catch-up, running longer than anyone else between pits making one less pit than everyone else in 25 minutes of play. The battle for the top spot would go down during the last pit as Chad was working on staying in the lead but mistakes brought 2nd to him and was a tooth and nail battle till the last two minutes as 2nd started to fall apart and Chad could stretch the lead for us to make a safety pit for extra fuel and finish it off for the win. When Chad brought it into the pit after the race the temp showed 212 on the Exergen and the was why cooler than I thought as it was impressive.
Congrats Chad on that win the JL Engine showed it can race with the big boys of engine manufactures.
Jaime Boquiren gets win, X3 Sabre at CVRC - 9/3/12 by DJ
Reported by Jaime Boquiren - After settling for 2nd place due to engine issues during my X3’s debut, I returned to CVRC in sunny Chula Vista California for some Friday night club racing to claim the top spot on the podium for the Sportsman class. First qualifiers went pretty good, got first place finish and set the fastest lap of the class, the car felt planted on every section of the track. 2nd qualifier was not much different, I got tangled with some traffic halfway through the race but I managed to finish in first place again. Some racers myself included were experiencing reduced mileage during the day, by the time the mains started, it was already past 9:00 PM, temperatures went down a bit with a very unusual high humidity condition, so the optimistic side of me decided to pit at my usual 9 minute interval, well that was too optimistic, the X3 died right after the 8 minute mark, luckily, it happened right in front of pitlane, having only about 10 seconds lead over 2nd place, the other driver passed me during my X3’s revival, three laps after that, I was back in first place and it stayed that way until the end of the race.CVRC is a very big track with high speed corners and jumps along with a tacky amount of traction it serves as a very technical track and the X3 shows it performance in just a short time I have had and has improved my times over the previous buggy I was running.

X3 Sabres run wild at the Sidwinder Nitro Explosion at ARC Raceway - 9/2/12 by DJ
Reported by DJ Sandate - It was year go around for the Sidewinder Fuels Nitro Explosion presented by Jimmy Babcock Racing League as it was brought back by the host track ARC Raceway out in Temecula Ca. A whole weekend of racing during the Labor Day Holiday, OFNA Teammates Miguel Perez, Gil Alontoga and myself went out to race and to have a good time and make a good running with our X3 Sabre's in nitro and electric. I was running both Intermediate and E-buggy, both classes were tough as E-buggy had Adam Drake and Jeremy Kortz in that class so I had to stay consistent and clean for a good starting position. Miguel and I both ran the same classes and we both got into the A-mainfor electric, Miguel in the 9th spot and myself in the 3rd it was good start from qualifying for the Sabre E's as we both were in the A-main show. I the nitro class was even tougher as my class have our non-pro fast guys racing this class, my first qual was spectacular as I had put on a killer pace and was out 2 seconds ahead of the best time in the class. The Sabre showed some speed and cornering as I went with the box set-up, but I just got a little greedy with pushing it as I was trying to make fastest laps in the class and took and couple of bad crashes that made me finish 2nd, I blew the 2 sec gap I had in the end. The next two quals were tough as there was more pushing around with cars that I could not get clear of when the track was going south and breaking down, I ended up in the 7th starting position for the A-main.
In e-buggy we had two 10min rounds for racing for the A-main and on a bigger outdoor track I was thinking about not overheating in the hot and sticky weather. Race 1 got out to a good start as I took the lead for the first two laps as Drake had a mishap but the came charging and I could not pace with him as he took the lead, then I tumbled allowing Jacob Haas to tail me and race for the 2nd spot,we worked together to keep our pace because we knew Kortz was coming strong as he put down fast lap but he had a fan malfunction that caused an overheat that stopped his car, so I finished in 3rd. I just needed to keep it together in the 2nd round but that didn't happen as track was really blown out and I got a rock or something stuck in my steering and I went hard into a pipe and crashed, it managed to work itself loose but I was too far back to catch up to the next position to keep 3rd overall and I finished in the 4th spot I was happy to be there challenging but came up short.
In nitro it was 30 minutes of hard racing again I got off to a good start getting past the tangle of cars getting in forth but after a couple of laps I dropped into the 3rd position catching the #2 spot, I was also battling with Andy Carillo for some time in that 3rd spot while trying to get up there but we slowed each other down allowing him to get away but 3rd was still mine until a flame-out and a blown plug took us out when we came into pit, it was frustrating to see that happen as we were there to stay up in the top three. We got back out and another mishap brought me back in as the throttle servo screw backed out, I went back out in 10th wanting to finished the race and hoping to make time and finish better and in the end got the 9th spot.
In all it was very good weekend as Miguel and I got both Sabre-E's for the Main and me making the Nitro main.
I also want to say thanks to the Grana's for all the help this weekend and Miguel for letting stay at his home for the weekend we had some good laugh listening to George Lopez's comedy skits, I had Miguel crying for a while.

Rick Hess wins with X3 Sabre & Nexx-8 SC - 8/25/12 by DJ
Reported by Rick Hess - Decided to get some club racing in at a local track with some fast friends on there new lay-out at the Boneyard in Mayfield, KY. With a good group of racers and perfect weather i would have my best run yet with my new X3 Saber. After 3 rounds I Qualified 2nd but at the start of the 30min main I would make a small mistake witch would help the leader distance himself a little. Halfway through the main i got in a good rhythm and ran down the leader but another small mistake with traffic the leader would end up separating himself again. As I was running him down again and he would make a mistake and break an a-arm,witch handed me the lead ! needless to say my X3 remains fast and durable witch helped me get my first win with the X3. Also a great night in 4wd SCT with my Nexx8 SCT conversion on 2s i would TQ and win the 10min A-main in one of the most popular classes in the region. special thanks to OFNA and Action Hobbies in Clarksville,TN

Reported by Richard Hess - My first big race and only 3rd race this season after a year off,with the X3 Sabre Nitro Buggy and it was awesome. A good turn out for the series at REO Raceway in Rockport Indiana. My X3 has been one of the most durable and fastest nitro buggies I've ever owned. I had worked up to 2nd place against some tough competition but a flame out would cost me a top 3 spot but I'm very happy of the buggies performance in my first pro level race against some of our regions fastest racers...special thanks to OFNA.

Pierre Kitti takes the overall series win for Grass Roots - 8/05/12 by DJ
Reported by Pierre Kitti - Over the course of the summer, I entered and raced in the Grass Roots Racing Series 2012. This is a points race that has racers traveling to compete at different tracks spanning from Thunder Alley, Hemet Competition, Plam desert R/C Raceway, and Proline. I began racing the Hong Nor X3 Sabre at the begining of May starting with Round 5 with the new buggy. The first race I entered was at Palm desert R/C Raceway and was set out to get a feel for the track and the new ride. I was immediately impressed how fast and stable the buggy was! Having the buggy work so great, led me to qualify 3rd overall and to win 1st place with the new X3 Sabre! The next race I traveled to was the Proline Racing Track in Banning,Ca for Round 6. I ended up qualifying 6th and finished the race as well in 6th place. The car worked really well, but I struggled with the layout. The next round was race 7 at Hemet Competition Raceway. The layout proved to be really difficult but was fun at the same time. I did much better this time around and qualified 2nd and was .1 second away from Tq! After the 15 minute race was over, I finished 2nd. The Grass Roots last and final round 8 was at the Famous Thunder Alley Raceway. I was going into this round standing 2nd overall in the Point Series. The track crew put in a sick layout as always that tested both the drivers speed and the durability of the cars. The first round of qualifying went well for me as I ended up in 2nd. I felt really comfortable with car and decided to only make a tire and droop change for the 2nd round of quals. After a few minutes into the next round, I had a mechanical problem and finished early. I had a good clean first round that put me in 6th place for the start of the A-Main. The race started off really well for me as I was able to drive patiently and not get tangled up with any of the other racers. After about six minutes into the race I was in the third place position and was running at a smooth pace and shortly after the 8 minute mark my pit man DJ called me in for some fuel. From then on I cruised the last seven minutes of the race and finished 3rd! I would like to thank all of the Hong Nor/OFNA Team for their great support and to all the tracks and sponsors that help put together a great Racing Series!
Malott race at SRI Raceway - 7/21/12 by DJ
Reported by Michael Malott - Over the weekend I traveled to Louisville, KY to race the 3rd round of the Local Joe series.
I made up my mind late Friday night to try and go. I scrambled to get my stuff all together and get my Pro 4wd SC truck up and going. I finally got it all done early Saturday morning. I went to sleep about 3am & needless to say after doing all of that I forgot to set my alarm on my phone & I didn't wake up till way late. I made the 2 hr. drive & got there just in time for the first round of quals. I threw on some tires that I ran there the last time I was down there for the 1st qual & I went at the new track layout a little behind. It took me a couple minutes to get the track down & I finally figured out a couple of the tricky sections but by that time the qual was over. I still did ok for not seeing the layout till that qual & came out with a 4th for the round. In between the 1st & 2nd rounds I took a little time to get on the track & just get a little practice in. I noticed the track as starting to get a little groove in it so I changed the setup & tires. When the 2nd round started I knew I had made the right choice & I got off to a great start & was clicking off fast laps. I was still struggling with a couple parts of the track & making mistake but it was coming to me. Once again in between rounds I got a couple minutes of practice & got the track dialed in. In the 3rd round I got off to a great start & was able to take over the lead on the track & in time by the end of the first lap. I knew if I could keep a solid pace & push I had the speed to take the TQ. Halfway in the 3rd round I was the only 4wd SC to be on an 11 lap run so I just kept charging & running my pace. I kept it clean & toned it back just a little and was able to take the TQ spots by over 11 seconds. I fell off the 11 lap run playing it safe but I wasn't worried about the fast race all I wanted was the TQ.
In the main I was ready to go and feeling confident that I had the fastest truck all I had to do was run my race & not get caught up. When the tone sounded I got away from the field & was off to a great start. 2nd & 3rd were battling & that allowed me to stretch it out early. About 2 minutes in I had a 12 second lead & was on cruise control until the epic fail happened. The low battery warning went off on my radio & I wasn't sure how long I had until it went completely dead so I just kept running as the alarm went off. I ran for about another 3 minutes and the radio finally shut off. I wound up a couple minutes short of the sweep. I was bummed that the radio went dead but I was pleased with the way it performed all day. My Tekin powered OFNA Hyper 10sc was good all day & my AKA tires were dialed. The new Radio post radio was flawless all day. I just made a rookie mistake & forgot to charge the battery. I will know next time when the life battery gets around 6v it goes dead really fast.

DJ gets X3 Sabre-E 2nd place at O'Donnell Champs - 6/15/12 by DJ
Reported by Dj Sandate - Over the weekend I got the chance to run my new buggy the X3 Sabre-E in competition at Revelation Raceway for the O'Donnell Champs, I've had a few runs on it indoors but now it was time to stretch the legs for some long straights and super high flying action. With a 2150kv motor strapped in and 4 cells to power the Sabre-E it was set to go fast. I just arrived 5minutes before the start of my race so I now practice time to get in so this was going to be interesting on how the car was going to be. Locked in some AKA Enduros and raced my way to the 2nd spot in qualifying in the 1st round, the next round I did a tire change and put on some Gridirons and the Sabre was feeling more aggressive but I got some narley crashes going for it and it slowed my pace down but I still managed to keep my 2nd place starting position for the race.
The track looked like it was still good for the Grids for the main but it was looser for the race so I started to pace to stay with first but my patients got the best of me as I ran out of it and wanted to take 1st so I did but in turn I crashed hard later that gave the lead back and dropped me back with 3rd, so now I'm battling to keep my 2nd in tact. We raced hard and made so many mistakes that the lead stretched it out from us so we were the only battle but Arron took a hard hit into a pipe and broke his ride and I continued on to hold for 2nd. The X3 felt really good and I enjoyed launching it over MT. Revelation and watch it soar with great jumping abilities just like my Nitro powered Sabre.
Malott and his Hyper 10sc takes podium at AMS - 6/9/12 by DJ
Reported by Michael Malott - Over the weekend I traveled to Cullman, AL for the Alabama Manufacturer Shootout. This was one of the biggest events I have ever been to so I was a little nervous going into it and I wasn't sure what to expect but I have been putting in a lot of time and work to get my stuff where I wanted it to be and I was ready for the challenge. When we arrived there were already a bunch of the top Pro's and manufacturer's setup and on hand so I knew all the top guys around and a lot of faster guys from across the country and the south would be there so making the A mains was going to be a tough task. I ran my OFNA Hyper 10sc in the Open 4wd SC class and managed a podium spot for the weekend, here's my report.
Open 4wd SC
I have been running really well in this class so this was the one I was hoping for the best results in. In practice I went with my normal setup to start with and made a couple changes after the first couple of times on the track and then the third time out the truck felt really good so I decided to try that. On Friday when the quals rolled around I was pretty happy with the truck and ready to go. The first qual started and I got off to a good start and everybody was spread out pretty good so I was able to get in some clean laps and had a very solid run. I won my heat and ended up 2nd for the round behind Ryan Lutz so I was stoked with that. In the second round the track had started to groove a little more so I wanted to make a tire change and test out how those would be. I had another solid run but was just a little bit slower then the first. I still was able to get a solid 4th so I knew I had the speed to stay in the top 5. In the 3rd round after the re sort i was sitting 3rd and I was happy with that. I stayed with the same tires and once again they were good. I was able to stay close to the leaders in the qual and come away with a 3rd for the round locking me into a top 3 starting spot for the double A mains.
In the mains I would start in the 3rd spot and I knew I would have to be solid because the top 2 were going really good and from 3-9 we were all really close. In the first A I got off to a good start but got taken out on the first lap and dropped to 7th. I was able to recover really well and put in a solid run picking off spots in the next few laps. On the last lap I had gotten to the 4th spot and the guy running second had a battery dump and that allowed me to move to 3rd. I was happy with a 3rd but knew I had to have a better start in the next A and stay up there if I wanted a shot at the podium or a top 5 finish. In the second A main I once again got out to a good jump and made it through the first couple sections and through the crashes only to crash myself and drop back to the 5th spot. I recovered and got around a couple of guys to make it back to 3rd. I knew if I was able to stay in the top 3 i would assure myself a podium. I stayed smooth and consistent for a couple laps and got tangled with a lapped car and that dropped me back down again. I put my head down and put in a charge and worked my way back up to the 3rd spot where I would finish for the round. With both rounds in the books I was able to go 3-3 in the double A mains and that consistency would put me in the 2nd spot overall for the weekend and on the second step of the podium behind Ryan Lutz. My Hyper 10SC, Tekin electronics, AKA Tires, Radipost gear, and PT RC oils performed flawless on my 4wd SC for the weekend and powered me to a 2nd place finish for the weekend.
