CRCRC MIDWEST NITRO CHAMPS 2011 by DJ
Reported by
Brian Bourland - The race weekend started off
with a snow storm Thursday that brought 4-5 inches to the
area. Traveling through the icy conditions was tough at times
but I arrived at the track later that evening. It was just in
time to setup and checkout the last few minutes of open practice. Friday
consisted of 2 rounds of controlled practice. That was
followed by one round of 5 min. heats to seed the qualifiers for
Saturday using your best 3 consecutive laps.
Saturday qualifying started off a little slow for
me. After the dust had settled by the end of the day, I was
sitting 12 overall in the electric 1/8 buggy class. In the B
main I was able to come out with a Win and take the 1 bump spot to the A
final. The A main started off like a freight train and I got a
good start. A little bobble in the infield section a few laps
later after feeling some pressure, quickly dropped me back thru the
field. With time left on the clock I put my head down and
tried to make up as many positions as possible. With the super
stiff competition in this one, I knew it would be tough. By
the end of the main I was in the 8 position, and that is where I would
finish. Through it all my OFNA Hyper 9e was flawless and so fun to
drive. Thanks to OFNA for making such awesome
products!

OFNA Dirt Oval takes 1,2,3 - 1/8/11 by davegm
Reported by Robin
Nelson - January 8, 2011, better known
as the weekend snow was dumped on the South, The Nitro Barn in
Cherryville, NC sponsored The 3rd Annual Ice Breaker race. I showed up
as one of 70 racers ready to race at the heated indoor dirt oval track. I
was prepared to race in Open Late Model, but no one else showed up for
this class. I borrowed an engine from Randy Delapp so that I could enter
the Limited Late Model class. After tuning the engine, I TQ’d the class
and started out running great in the main. Unfortunately, in the middle
of the A Main, I hit lapped traffic and got in a tangle. My car didn’t
make out so well and my day ended early. The racing was great any way
after the Christmas and New Year hiatus. The top three in Limited Late
Model is as follows:

Hyper 10sc pilot Gaige wins at OCRC - 1/9/11 by DJ
Reported by
DJ -
Gaige Herrera a team driver for OFNA took his
Hyper 10sc and drove to victory in the 4wd Pro sc class. Gaige started
2nd for the main with good runs, for the main though it was a tough
start as he would roll it after couple of turns at the start of the race
and be at the back of the field but managed to tear through the field
to play catch-up with the leader. The leader also dealing with some
tight traffic slowed his pace for Gaige to fall back in closing range.
With time going down Gaige was making attack to get to the lead but had a
couple of bobbles to open a little but traffic was still keeping him in
the game as the leader was pushing but put it to the edge a little too
much causing a bad roll over for Gaige to make the pass onto the
straight with one lap to go and to take the win. Gaige got the killer
win for the final night of the racing at OCRC"
Outstanding"

Hyper 9 2.0 wins at Revelation Raceway in the Novice class - 1/8/11 by DJ
 Reported by D.J Sandate -
Marc Maglinte a regular at Revelation just recently switched over to a
Hyper 9 2.0 from another competitor buggy and came out to run with his
new ride. Marc got in 1 qualifier in the 2nd round to get in good and
qualify 3rd for the main a good run for no practice time. The race was
20min. in the Novice class so the car would be going through it's paces
during the race but Marc was on it for the race keeping his pace and
staying with the leaders for the first half of the race. After some good
pits from James and Dj the next half would be battle for the lead as
Marc got to the front and fought to keep the lead, with minutes left in
the race Marc would make his last pit for fuel and maintain the lead for
the win. A good race that resulted in a win for Marc and the Hyper 9
2.0. Good job Marc looking to here about more wins in your Hyper for the
2011 year.
Hyper9e wins at Revelation Raceway - 1/8/11 by DJ
 Reported by D.J. Sandate -
In his first race with the Hyper 9E Team driver James
Grossaint headed out to Revelations Raceway. In the first round James
would get a good run to take the TQ position. There was a 10 minute main
and from start to finish James would hold the lead for the whole race
and finished comfortably with the entire field a lap behind.
James said he liked the new Hobao L-Block tires and
Hobao black tire inserts. He also said the Castle Creation 2200kv motor
and MMM speedo ran superb on his 4s batteries for the entire run for the
main.
Randy Kung takes the double at WCRC - 1/9/11 by davegm
Reported
by Randy Kung -
West Coast R/C Raceway: With the Supercross series the next day decided
to run my Hyper 10, However, I also decided to build and race my new
1/8th scale. In the 4WD SC class, I mainly wanted to see how my new set
up is and if it can break my 15/5:18.498 time. In the first
round of qualifying, I started second and finished with the EXCAT time
of 15/5:18.498. In the second qualifier, I tried a different shock set
up, however, it wasn’t working well at the whoop section and I bobbled
there once. I finished in a 14/5:03. I changed back to my old set up for
the main. I started from the pole and led the whole race only making
minor races. However, I still finished with a 15/5:18, but went a little
bit faster as I finished in a
15/5:18.423.

Reported by Randy Kung - West Coast
R/C Raceway: In the Expert 1-8th Scale class, Jason Kung was still not
feeling good and decided to go home to rest for tomorrow. I had to take
his sign up position and ran my 1-8th scale. In the first qualifier, my
older motor wasn’t holding in place and it moved. In the second
qualifier, during warm up laps, the motor moved again and I was unable
to run the second qualifier. However, for the mains, I decided to try a
new motor. I started from last place, but got lucky and got to first
place by the first lap. But, after two minutes, I flipped once and lost
the lead. In the last minute, I was lucky that the leader bobbled which
made me regain the lead and take the win.
