Local Joe Series Final Round - 9/17/11 by DJ
Reported by Michael Mallot - This weekend I traveled to Reo Raceway in Rockport, IN for the final round of the Local Joe race series. This was a 6 race series that consisted of 2 different tracks, Reo Raceway in Rockport, IN and SRI Raceway in Louisville, KY. I came into the final round with a slight lead after the throw outs. I had missed the last couple of rounds while I was doing the other big car stuff this summer. It was now or never to take down the title. The 1/8 E-Buggy class had been a very highly attested class the whole series and I knew I had to have a solid finish this race to take the overall points title. The 1st round got started and I got off to a fast start and was in a good rhythm clicking of consistent laps. I ended up the first round sitting 4th so I was happy with that. I made a tire change for the 2nd round and that was the ticket. The 2nd qual I got off to a quick start once again and the car was really good. I had the right tires and enough traction. I had a good run going and made a few mistakes but I was fast enough to jump up to 2nd overall after the 2nd qual. 3rd round and the car was really good so I just stayed smooth and consistent all round and ended up qualifying 2nd for the A main. I knew I had to finish 6th or better to take the title going into the main. The A main I got off to a good start and was just running consistent laps and not trying to push to hard. I was content with staying in 2nd and just cruising. About the halfway mark I cased the triple really hard and the car shut off. I was now in panic mode. The marshal picked up the car and looked at it and couldn't see anything wrong. He finally looked at the switch and it had gotten jarred loose and had shut off. He flipped the switch back on and I was back going. After having the mishap and I had dropped all the way to the back and was now a lap down to the guy I was battling with in the points. Once I got going again I just put my head down and got back into a solid rhythm and was setting a blistering pace. I got back around the lead pack and got my lap back and was now picking off drivers and moving back up threw the pack. I was not sure where I was but with about a minute to go I had gotten back to 4th so I just kept the hammer down down and knew if I stayed there I had the title. When the final tone sounded I ended up 4th for the night but I had wrapped up the overall points title. I was stoked that I was able to come back and finish the way I did after having the freak thing happen with the switch shutting off. I took the title by a mere 4 points over second. I had a good series with the 4 out of 6 rounds I was able to run I took 3 TQ awards, 2 wins, 1 3rd, and 1 4th. I couldn't have done this without all of my sponsors helping me out and giving me the opportunity to run the best products in the industry. My OFNA/BCE Hyper 9e was solid all year and I never had one breakage or failure in all 4 races. My Tekin equipment and AKA tires were also flawless the whole series and gave me the power and grip I needed throughout the summer to get the solid finishes I had this year. The PT RC oils were so smooth and consistent all summer in the heat and in the cool I knew I had no worries of the shocks or diffs fading under either conditions. Thanks again to all my great sponsors. I couldn't do all the racing I am without your help.
Chad wins with his Nexx10sc 4x4 - 9/19/11 by davegm
Reported by Chad Bradley - Friday Night Pro 4 SC Racing at Hot Rod hobbies. The Pro 4 SC class had a pretty good turn out with 11 trucks total for the night. In qualifying it was Stephen Bess taking the TQ in round 2 of qualifying beating out Chad Bradley's time by a half second from round 1. Chad failed to finish the second round due to a wreck early on the qualifier. In the 8 minute main Bess lead out on the first lap with Chad following closely with the Nexx10 SC in second, Chad was able to pass Stephen on the back strait on the first lap. Chad pulled to close to half lap lead in the first half of the main, a couple costly mistakes by Bradley and Bess was back out in front. Later in the main Chad was able to get around Bess for the lead and the win driving the Nexx10 SC. Chad said it felt good getting the win despite all the mistakes and the truck was good itself as well, could of been better cause the nights are starting to get cold and said it would of handled a little better with a lighter suspension setup.

A Race Report by Dustin Mc Cutcheon - 9/15/11 by DJ
Reported by Dustin McCutcheon - This past weekend I traveled to a new track in Silver City North Carolina for the 5th round of the NCCS series. I am currently running in 4th place of 62 cars in my class. My family and I arrived at the track on Friday to get some practice in before the next day of qualifying and racing. I soon realized that the setup that I had on my Hyperstar was going to work great with the track and it was going to be a tire game. Unfortunately the tires that I had with me were small pin tires and this being a new track the dirt was still a little fluffy. I then went to a few of the pros that were there and purchased a tire that suited the track. So Saturday morning I had a lot of confidence in my car and my setup and was looking toward to showing everyone how great my Hyperstar is!! With some bad luck I was qualified 9th overall but had turned lap times that were the fastest in my class!!!! When the main started I went from 9th to 4th in the very first lap. I continued in 4th for the first segment of the race but after a great pit stop I came out in 3rd place and never looked back. Thanks a lot for a great car and looking forward to getting my car on the podium more often.
Nexx 8 and Nexx 10sc take wins at the Heartnut Festival Cash Race - 9/10/11 by DJ
Reported by Jubal Dike - JCP/RC was back at it again for the Heartnut Festival Cash Race in Saturday. With a sketchy forecast it scared some of the out of towner's away, but we still ended up with 68 entries. As luck would have it the tracks were dialed all day/night long till the last main (ebug), then mother nature couldn't hold back any longer!
I entered both Pro4 and 1/8 electric buggy for the day. With basically zero practice time because of prior engagements, I was behind right from the start.
We ran qual points this race, which is not the norm for JCP. This would prove to cost me the TQ in Pro4 and 3rd in ebug qualifying. I ended up 3rd and 4th in the two classes regardless.
In the Pro4 main I received an unwelcome shove off the track by an overzealous driver which put me deep in the field. This proved to cost me any chance of winning because by the time I worked through everyone I was already almost a lap down. However with determination and some luck, as well as a dialed Nexx10 and new Tekin Pro4 Motor, I was able to finish second.
At the tone for the ebuggy main the sky lit up an the sprinkles and thunder started. I got off to a good start and was instantly working on the leaders. As the rain picked up I was swapping the lead with Ralph Krum (Nexx8) and we were only 5 secs in front of Brian Bourland (Hyper Star E). About halfway through I had a battery connection fail ending my night. This ended up being not such a bad thing. About the time I got my buggy from the track the rain cut loose! The race continued in the downpour with Ralph and Bourland finishing 1-2! Their cars were a MESS an they were soaked!

2nd Annual Labor Day Shootout at Indy RC 9/3/11 by DJ
Reported by Michael Malott - I was ready to go for the e buggy class. I knew a few new guys had made the switch from Nitro to Electric and had gotten really fast the the 1/8 buggy class was going to be a fast and hard class to win. I ran a couple packs in practice to get ready for the quals. My car was good right from the get go so I just left it alone. The first qual started really well and I was flying and on a TQ pace when it all started to go south. I got into traffic and started making a lot of mistakes and that drooped me down off of TQ pace. I ended up 3rd for the round so I was pretty happy with that. The 2nd round of quals started and after the shuffle I was in the A qualifier. The qual started off bad and right from the start, I was making stupid mistakes again and was having some troubles. I got the car rolling mid way through the qual and was clicking off fast laps and making up a lot of time but it was to late for the qual. I ended up 4th for the round and that is where I would start on the grid for the final. The A main got off to a good start and everybody was able to get away clean. Fellow OFNA team driver Brian Bourland had jumped out to an early lead and I had settled into 2nd. Bourland was setting a fast pace and I was pushing really hard to catch up to him. I was making up a little time and he got into traffic and had a few issues and made a few mistakes to let me catch up. I finally got to him and ran right behind him for about 4 laps putting pressure on him hoping he would make a mistake. In one section of tha track I was a little faster then he was and I put a lot of pressure on him and he let me go. I got to the lead and he stayed right with me pacing me the whole way. We got to lap traffic once again and I was able to get through it clean but Bourland got hung up with a lapper and that gave me the advantage I needed to pull away and take the win. I was super pumped with the results after being off the pace in quals and coming back and winning the A main.
Also Brian Bourland and Jubal Dike were also out in attendance, showing how fast the Hypers were as Bourland took 2nd and Jubal just missing the podium in 4th OFNA DRIVERS ON A TEAR!!!
Brian Bourland gets the double at JCP - 8/27/11 by DJ
Reported by Brian Bourland - I raced this past weekend at JCP the Midwest Monster, for a club race. Short course and my Nexx 10sc was more of the same. TQ/Win. The losi's are coming on strong tho. (good thing they seem to overheat easily)!!
In 8th scale I drove my HyperStar-e Bump edition with good results. They mixed us with nitro due to turnout, I qualified 2nd with a Mugen ECO in TQ by 2seconds. In the 15 minute main us 2 e buggies pulled out front. I ran at a comfortable pass, never really pulling past 1/2 throttle on straight and short jumped a section that uses a lot of juice (mah) to get over it. The advantage with short jumping was 2 fold as I never wrecked there and I was saving battery life along with a steady pace on the straight. (I mean with ebuggy I could light the wheels down the whole straight or anywhere if i wanted, so I was really trying to control the motor for optimal battery life). Half way through I drove to the lead on a bobble from the Mugen. I led a few laps until I came in for a simulated pit stop and had a bad out lap. I was never more than 10 seconds behind the leader after pitting. Knowing the driving habits of the leader I knew if I just stayed close enough and at a good pace, I would finish and he would dump out. With 30 seconds to go that is just what happened, his battery dumped and I sailed home to Victory!!!!

Kortz and Hyper 9 wins at Hot Rod Hobbies - 8/20/11 by davegm
Reported by Jeremy Kortz - Hot Rod Hobbies: The first round of qualifying 1st and TQed. But in the second round Chad and I battled it out until I made a mistake over the quad section of the new track. Chad went on to take the TQ with a time of 15laps at a 15-5.21.006 and I finished w a 14 laps at a 14-5.05.002, and Steven Best from Car Action was 3rd. So, in the 15min main I bumped Chad in the first turn when he got a little wide but I let him back bye the regain the lead, but after the triple he made a mistake which gave me the lead. I lead up to the 5min mark until I hit lap traffic and I crashed and gave the lead to Best and Bradley in second, a couple of laps later Bradley flames of and I was in second, be hide Best!!! Kortz and Hyper wins at Roadrunners - 8/19/11 by davegm
Reported by Jeremy
Kortz - 8-19-11 Ventura Roadrunner raceway: It was the first time for me to race there in months!! I was cool to see about 80 entry's. You can only race one class so I ran 1/8 gas buggy! There was only one heat of gas, and in the first round of qualifying I set the TQ mark at 14 lap at a 5min and 18sec! Second place best time was 13 laps at 5:06. The start of the main I started last to work on my passing, and by the second lap I took over the lead and never looked back. By the end of the 5min race I lapped the field to take win! Also this was the first time my 4yrs son DANE raced SC trk beginner class and out of 20 trks he qualified 18th not bad for his first ever race!!! He couldn't stay to race his main because of his bed time!! LOL It was really cool to see all the people come up and check out his trk, and wanted to know what kind of trk was that, because he hit everything and it didn't brake!!!

Hyper 10sc takes One Two Three! - 8/17/11 by davegm
Reported by Randy Kung - West Coast R/C Raceway Club Racing - Today, Jason and Randy Kung decided to race their Hyper 10’s to prepare for the event happening this weekend. Today was a little different because the qualifiers and main events were both 6 minutes long. In the first qualifier, during the warm up lap, Randy took the triple-single line wrong and under jumped it landing on his front right arm breaking his arm. Jason decided to take the same line and the same thing happened. They both did not race the first qualifier. In the second round of qualifying Jason started in the first spot and Randy in the second. Jason was able to get a good start and took the win in the qualifier with a pace 5 seconds faster than the first round TQ pace. Randy was one second behind the first round TQ pace. As the main events began, Jason started from the number one spot, Jeremy Kortz in the second spot, and Randy in the third. In the first two minutes, there were many battles which included 3 Hyper 10’s, Losi’s, Durango’s, and the Nexx 10SC. Many battles were on and close during the 6 minute A-Main. In the last two minutes, Jason made a bobble which allowed Randy to take the lead. Than right after, Randy made a bobble which allowed Jason to take the lead right back. However, Jason took the double-double line in the center quad section and Randy took the triple-single lines. Randy took the lead, but competition in the top three were still close. However, time ran out and Randy finished in a pace of 17/5:05.3 while Jason finished in a 17/5:05.6 and Jeremy finishing in a 17/5:06.0. Between the top three drivers, each driver was separated by less than 0.4 seconds! It was a exciting race to watch and congratulations to the HoBao Hyper team racers for finishing in the top 3!

Jubal "AGAIN!!!! with a win" at JCP Raceway - 7/30/11 by DJ
Reported by Jubal Dike - $$$$$---Cash Race under the lights---$$$$$ - After a few weeks off it was back to the track for a chance to win some cold hard cash!!!! 73 entries came out to enjoy the 2 new layouts and to battle for the $$$. In Pro Ebuggy, my first two qualifiers left me sitting 3rd and a little off pace. After some adjustments I bettered my time by more than 20 secs which still left me Q3 but back up to speed with TQ Brian Seitz (Mugen ECO), Q2 Brian Bourland (Hyper 9e) and Q4 was Dan Rennekamp (Nexx8). At the tone to start the main, I found myself upside down in the third corner and watched the entire field drive by. Not a good start to say the least but 10 minutes is a long time so I just got back going and settled into my pace. Not but just a few laps in I was really clicking off some super fast laps and had quickly reeled in the leader, Bourland, and took over the top spot. I built a comfortable lead and was able to close out the deal with my fellow OFNA teammate Brian Bourland in second. This win felt pretty good considering I was a full lap off pace in the beginning of the day and was able to make the right car and driver adjustments to pull this off.

Bourland takes wins and some cash at JCP Raceway - 7/30/11 by DJ
Reported by Brian Bourland - This weekend I raced out at JCP Raceway for the "$$$$$$$---Cash Race under the lights---$$$$$$$" I ran 3 classes this weekend 4x4, nitro & ebuggy. I won sc from 5th position on the grid after coming to grips with the track. The 4x4 sc class was the biggest class of the night. On my HyperStar I qualified 2nd and with the help of a 10 min strategy I pulled of another Win. Then in E-buggy I set early TQ then in round 2 almost reset TQ but track gremlins denied the opportunity late in the charge. I qualified 2nd and finished 2nd. I ran the Hyperstar PBS.
Here is a story of the event: Saturday July 30 Jcp Raceway hosted the $$$$---Cash Race under the lights---$$$$. The newly rebuilt tracks offered great racing on both sides. And the 2 tracks provided a good mix of both 1/10 electric and 1/8 racers at the same facility. In Pro4 I searched early for the right setup and after starting 5th with my Nexx10 SC along with the right tire choice my 4x4 went to the front and brought home the payday. In Nitro buggy I missed pole by 2 sec and started p2. In the main my HyperStar was dialed and a 10 min stopper insured the Win! Next up was the Hyper9E and after starting 2nd and leading the way for the first half, Ofna teammate Jubal Dike took over and showed the way to the end. For an Ofna 1-2 in the Ebuggy class.

Sweep Tires/Radiopost Race#2 win for Gaige Herrera with Hyper9 - 7/23/11 by DJ
Reported by Gaige Herrera - Second round of the Radio Post/ Sweep points series at Revelation Raceway. There was a total of 11 heats and I signed up for the Amateur/ Intermediate class with my Hobao Hyper 9 Nitro. The first qualifier I had some radio problems and my steering was glitching like crazy all through out the 5 minutes. After getting the glitching problems solved it was time for the second qualifier and it was a really good run and ended up winning my heat and qualified second overall, seconds behind the TQ. Starting second on the grid, I got pushed wide in the first turn so didn't get a good start so by the first lap I was second to last on the first lap, half way through the race I got in a groove and caught up to the battle for the lead and managed to get around them when they tangled up. Was battling with Michael Vincent, team Kyosho driver for several minutes trading the lead between us lap after lap for most of the later part of the race till he crashed and I stretched out to a 27 second lead and ended up lapping all the way up to third and got the win. A good win for me as I had not attended the first race of the series and the winner from the first race did not attend so it puts me right there to challenge for the points lead.
