All moving parts have to have some clearance to avoid friction damage. The question is, "what's normal?".
I have two engines apart at the moment, a Force 26 and a Nitro-Start 25. Both seem to have interchangeable parts except the piston and sleeve are slightly larger in diameter with respect to the Force 26.
Both engines seem to exhibit the same amount of play between the connecting rod and crank. Is there some sort of Rule of Thumb for determining when the clearance is getting too great and the rod should be replaced?
Right now, if I pull up or push down on the rod, a slight film of fuel is pushed out from between the con-rod bushing and the crank pin. I can get some fore to aft rocking movement, but very little. |
