i had a runnaway and it scared the shop outta me. the electric safes are good for a few things like interferance or same frequency hits. ive found that even with my built in fail safe on my radio or the small plug ins are not 100% safe. like you said if you lose juice what good are they. so my suggestion is get a throttle return spring. nitrohouse.com has some for the revo but they will work. part #tra4046 $4.25 you get a couple of them. i have a few in my box now. while your waiting on the order you can use a ponny tail band or small rubber band. that will work. just stretch it around your carb air filter and over to the ball joint that pulls and pushes your slide in the carb. that way when you lose power the band or spring will pull the slide shut. the only set back is it slows down servo speed when you give gas. so use the return spring and get a stronger servo. that would be ideal. i run the spring now with a safe on my radio. its a futaba 3pm 2.4ghz. great radio.
anyways man i hope this helps you. its a very simple set up. a-lot of times its the simplicity that wins. high tech electronic fail safes beat by a simple tiny spring or small rubber band. go figure lol.
happy racing brother

Some higher end radios have a built in failsafe.
I know my Nomadio React has one. You set the failsafe points which is normally where everything is when you have your car sitting at idle and your good to go.
Its worked a couple of times for me when I had battery issues and after landing a large jump the car would lose power for a moment then come back to life. When that happened, the car just coasted in a straight line. So it did its job.

But many tracks as well as the Pro Series require a throttle return spring on your car. You cant race until its on there and if they tech you after a race and its not there. That race is thrown out. So failsafe or not,you have to get a return spring.

As Bpoates said. A rubber band does do the job. Use a thinner rubber band and loop it over where he said to put it a couple of times making sure that it has the power to pull the carb arm back to closed yet wont hurt the speed and performance of the servo.
They dont last long so you will have to keep an eye on it and replace it maybe once a month or so depending on how often you run.

I used an extra header spring which goes from the cooling head to the throttle servo head. Works great when the battery pack is diconnected, it returns back to neutral like it should. Also my transmitter has a fail safe, so if the battery in the radio goes dead, the throttle returns back to neutral. If there is no power what-so-ever in the car or radio, the throttle return spring always goes back to neutral.
