Australian Team driver Logan Bruecher won the Western Australian Challenge Cup Series for 2009 on the weekend. Each of the three events that made up the series was held at a different track, two were on clay and one was on a grass track.

The trophies were awarded based on the combined laps of all three events, with all qualifiers counting (including those rounds dropped), plus the laps from the drivers highest final only from each event. This rewarded commitment (attending all three events) and consistency (running all your qualifiers, and doing well in the finals).

There were three Hyper 9's in the top 10 for the overall series - John Barr finished 4th overall, and I came in at 9th overall.

Two of my team drivers secured 2 and 3 total this weekend, in a Kyosho sponsored regionals cup.

Hmm... Seems like there's a problem with the Norwegian letter "°" in the addres?

Bottom picture. Thats Ronny Myhre on the left (second) and Tom Erik Thomassen on the rigth (third, holding a Tamiya TRF801X).

Thomassen had switched to Tamiya before the last round, having had trouble gettting the 9 to work for him. It looks like the Tamiya suited him much better.

Ronny Myhre is driving the Hyper 9 GL (without the extended hubs).

This last round was total mayhem as it was pouring down most of the day, and temperatures were just above freezing point...

Finding a proper way to not fill the engine with water is hell...

Finally got around to upload some pics. I'm 3'rd from left

West Australian State Titles held last week, there were seven Hyper 9's competing amongst 53 buggys (there would have been 8 if I hadn't been an official!). After qualifying, there were 4 in the top 10.

One got knocked out in the semi-final, due to a single flameout. So three made it into the (10 car) Main final. Off to a brilliant start, and at the 27 minute mark Hobao's were 3rd and 4th. Then disaster struck - one broke an aftermarket lightweight tie-rod (he won't be using them again!), then one somehow managed to break the rear dogbone, and the last one standing cracked a lower arm (running old stock, the fool!).

Their pitcrews managed to quickly repair all three as they came off the track (not all at the same time), and all three finished the race in 6th, 7th, and 8th place. A disappointing end to what was a great event for Hobao.
