I bought a new hyper .21 8p turbo engine and I'm working on breaking it in. Having a bit of trouble getting it started for the first time. Needles are set to what is recommended for break in. 5 out for the master, 3.5 for the low end. Just seems like its really tight at top dead center to where I need to use a flat head screw driver and pry on the flywheel to get it to turn. It has a pull starter at the moment and that rotates the motor just fine, only problem with that is the cord won't go back in after I pull it. I have to keep turning the flywheel. I have a roto-start plate on the way for that. I also tried loosening the glow plug a bit as well.

I removed the head and noticed that there was no shims. Is this how this motor comes from factory? If not what size shim do I need. Im only usually run 20% nitro.

Is the tightness like this at top dead center normal?

nevermind, the 2 shims were hiding on me. Has a copper and aluminum shim. I figured it had to, the illustration shows 2 of them and my other hyper .21 (grey head) has the shims.

Still a pain to get started. I think once I get a roto-starter back plate on it, it should start. Not really warm out today either, about 50 degf.

I just purchased a Hyper 21 8P and when ai saw the instructions stating the unusal settings for turns out on the needles I called OFNA. They said those instructions were a misprint and to leave the LS at flush and set the HS at 3-3 1/2 turns out from closed. Unfortunately my motor would not start at all. I tried two different fuel brands, adjusted the LS a full turn in both directions, tried three different plugs, and exhausted a couple batteries in my starter wand. I have sent the motor back to OFNA and hopefully they will be able to resolve the problem. If anyone else has had this problem I'd like to know how they resolved the problem.
