Hi guys! I know this is the forum for the Hyper ST, but I thought it was close enough to slip in a mini.
I was kindly given one for Christmas this year by my lovely fiance:
So far, the little rocket has been a stack of fun.One of the first things I wanted to do with my new Mini is to add a Car Saver. Had a pretty bad experience while trying to fix my old 1/8th where it lost reception at top speed and flew across the oval into a tree trunk. Luckily, it was a tough old bird and wasn't even hurt.
Anyways, I noticed the top of the Receiver Box could be removed, and decided it would be the best place for the Car Saver, as it was already crowded inside, and didn't give easy access to the button to reset the saver. So, here it is:
Hope you like it!!! Matches the Aerial colour well. I need to add some sealer or glue from a glue gun to the wires, as I opened up the receiver box the other day after jumping the car onto sand, and it was packed with dirt. Need to seal up these holes. My only other mod to date has been to add cable ties to the body clips to make them easier to remove, nasty little things!
I have buggered it up once, trying to drive over this:
It is a wooden post on the edge of an ovals long jump pit. Unfortunately, I misjudged my angle of approach, with this as the result:
I bent the Aluminium Front Kick Up Plate/Rear Anti Squat Plate. My local hobby centre bent it back in place, and ordered me a new one. Ouch. Apparently these bits bend real easy, so I may end up taking one to a machining place to see if they can create a stronger one for me.
While I was at it, I ordered a whole bunch of spares: Front Plate, Wing Mount (according to "RC NuB" from HoBao forums, these both break easily), Body Clips, Hinge Pin Bushings (I destroyed one) Screws. I also picked up some Air filter oil.
I am very excited at the moment, as I have some goodies in the mail!!!

Will be wrapped in Proline Monster tyres. They are M3, am keen to know how people think these will go with the mini

Wrapped in Proline Dirt Paws.
Very interested to hear what people think of my tyre choices, as a beginner. I know the road rage tyres work well, what about the other two?
Another question: I'm sure it is probably answered elsewhere but what is the relationship between HoBao and OFNA? Is one a specialist division of the other, or just a different name for a different location or what? How does it work? |

| Ofna is the main company and hoboa and jammin and picco are all sub racing companys that fall under ofna. I think that is how it works. Good luck with you ST Mini they look like a lot of fun. |

Update time.
Well, did I make a fool of myself with wheel and tyre selection or what?
Epic Fail Number 1: I ordered the above wheels, but they are for on-road cars. *FACEPALM!!!* Luckily, the ebay seller was kind enough to offer a refund for my mistake..
Epic Fail Number 2: Tyre choice. My LHS (Local Hobby Store) believe the Road Rage tyres should work, the Dirt Paw tyres may work, but the Monster Tyres are a deffinate no. Hopefully, as these are still in packaging, the online store I purchased them for will be happy to swap them for a more suitable choice.
Solutions: Bought some sweet HPI 2.2" truck wheels from a different LHS today. Got the Road Rage tyres on them, it looks absolutely sick! Liking the HPI style, so I've got two more sets coming from the US. I do have a bit of a problem with the front tyres, they are rubbing up against the steering rod. They aren't hard against it, but you can hear them touching. I may take it back to the LHS to see what they say. Anyone else encountered this problem? |

Not sure what to do about the steering rod and tyres rubbing though.

Ok. Time for an update.
Decided that one of the best teachers is experience. Gave the Road Rage II tyres a try, unglued, to see how bad the rubbing with the steering rod was going to be.
As you can probably see, left quite a groove in the tyre. I'm going to try and get some new HPI wheels, and try them on something with a deeper offset.
I have my eye on these:
HPI 3082 Spike Truck Wheel Shiny Chrome
HPI 3087 Scorch 6-Spke Whl Shny Chrm 2.2"
Also, I moved house last week, and have just finished setting up my all new man cave:
Gave the Dirt Paw tyres a try. They worked really well, although I might need to trim a bit of the body at the front as the big tyre nubs (I think thats the right word??) were catching on it. I think it looks mean:

Mmmm yum!
Got a package today with two new sets of wheels, one set of inserts, and a tyre glue.
I think I may have done a pretty average job on glueing them, but I'm sure I'll get better with practice.
Anyway, on to pictures!
Now just gotta wait for my big spare parts order and i'll be happy as a pig in mud. |

Got a new light kit, custom made by Bill in the states.
Also have a new body coming, so I'll use it only for night onroad driving. Less chance of breaking it. Has 4 headlights, 2 brake lights and 6 orange neon style lights. The best part is that the brake lights actually work! |
